LTE Group pay tribute to former Chair Cllr Sue Murphy CBE

The Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council had been Group Chair for the past 12 years.

Cllr Sue Murphy CBE was appointed as the first Chair of LTE Group (formerly The Manchester College) following the merger of MANCAT and City College Manchester in 2008.

Cllr Murphy had a long and distinguished career in local government as a member of Manchester City Council, serving as a ward councillor from 1995 and Deputy Leader from 2010. She was made a CBE for her services to the city in 2015.

She also served the city in a range of other capacities including being on the board of Manchester Health and Care Commissioning Group and as chair of trustees for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, which was established after the 22 May 2017 terror attack. Sue was a committed champion for women, for diversity and for the vulnerable through her work tackling homelessness and poverty.

Access to education and skills as a means of improving the life chances of the young people of Manchester was a fundamental principle that she held. She took every opportunity she could through her extensive national networks to ensure that others heard and understood this message. She passionately believed in the rehabilitation of offenders through access to learning and skills and served as Chair of the Novus Divisional Board in addition to her role as Group Chair. She represented her many charitable causes with the utmost conviction.

We lost Sue to an ongoing illness which took her from us suddenly. Her loss is felt deeply by all at LTE Group.
