LTE Group pays tribute to Sir Howard Bernstein
The former chief executive of Manchester City Council was a long-standing supporter of LTE Group and The Manchester College.
The LTE Group is saddened by the news of the death of Sir Howard Bernstein.
Sir Howard began his career at Manchester town hall in 1971, eventually serving as chief executive of Manchester City Council for 20 years, from 1998 until his retirement in 2017.
Throughout this period he was hugely supportive of our mission to improve the lives of Manchester’s young people and adults through skills and training. Sir Howard was a key supporter of the creation of LTE Group in 2016. The Group’s investment in major new facilities for The Manchester College and the young people of Manchester would not have been possible without his unwavering support.
During his time at the town hall, Sir Howard also played a major role in accomplishments such as the rebuild after the IRA bombing in 1996, the Commonwealth Games in 2002, and the regeneration and development that this brought to the city region. He served as honorary president of Manchester City FC, and spent a decade as president of Lancashire Cricket.
Sir Howard was a valued friend to LTE Group, and will be sorely missed.
