New Greater Manchester devolution deal signed at City Campus Manchester

Mayor, Levelling Up Minister and council leaders converge on College campus for launch of milestone agreement.

This week LTE Group hosted a ceremony to formalise a milestone devolution deal for Greater Manchester.

The event at City Campus Manchester was attended by Mayor Andy Burnham, Minister for Levelling-up Dehenna Davison and the region’s council leaders as the local, regional and national leaders formally signed the new trailblazer devolution deal for the region.

The deal includes a focus on providing local leaders with greater influence over post-16 technical education. Mr Burnham emphasised the important role the region’s colleges have to play in the successful delivery of skills in the city region.

He added: “We’ve worked hard to secure this deal and have achieved a significant breakthrough by gaining greater control over post-16 technical education, setting us firmly on the path to become the UK’s first technical education city region.”

Commenting on the deal Rachel Curry, Principal at The Manchester College and LTE Group Deputy CEO said:

The new deal provides a fantastic opportunity for closer integration and collaboration between colleges, employers and local leaders to ensure that people across the region are able to acquire the skills that will raise aspiration and lead them into well paid employment which, in turn, will drive growth in the region’s economy.

“Our established curricula, which are co-developed and co-delivered with industry partners, mean that we are well positioned to maximise the new opportunities that this new deal presents. I am looking forward to working in collaboration with the Greater Manchester Colleges Group, the Combined Authority, the City Council and employers to achieve this.”
