Openshaw - redevelopment and new facilities

Alongside the new City Centre Campus, we are also redeveloping and expanding the Openshaw Campus, to provide fresh new facilities for our students in Sports, Healthcare, Automotive and Construction, which will be open from September 2021.

Sport students will have exclusive use of a new six court multi-disciplinary sports hall, with a viewing gallery, which will host five-a-side football, netball, basketball, badminton, volleyball and more. A media suite with match analysis capability will provide a live video link to the sports hall.

There will be a brand new, full size, 3G outdoor artifical pitch opening in Spring 2022, with home and away team changing rooms, with direct access to the pitch, together with spectator seating area. In addition, there is a 30 station on-site gym, a professional standard strength and conditioning room and a sports laboratory opening in September 2021.

Our healthcare students will benefit from a state-of-the-art mock hospital ward, complete with industry standard hospital beds and equipment; a nursing station with computers and an infectious disease area to accomodate barrier nursing. In addition, there will be a care suite with a lounge area, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, fully-fitted with assistive and adaptable equipment, as well as a fully-fitted kitchen stocked with adaptive feeding equipment. 

Construction students will be taught in new workshops for a wide range of specialist and trade programmes, with electrical testing, brickwork, plumbing, plastering, painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery and a multi-disciplinary area for larger projects. 

There will also be a new immersive technologies laboratory and machine workshops, providing the perfect learning environment for motor vehicle and engineering students.

New technical level students will benefit from a mezzanine level area that can be turned into a conference centre, providing industry-standard facilities; designated workspaces and practical areas; BIM suites and an immersive tech lab for virtual reality welding.
